Museums at Night
Museums at night is a twice-yearly event where museums all across the country open at night to offer
interesting and exciting programmes. Because they happen at night, they have a whole different atmosphere from normal museum events and attract an entirely different clientele.
Playday that they put on, except adults were allowed to use permanent markers, scissors and fabrics to modify and beautify dolls. For the people who were making dresses and putting ‘makeup’ on the dolls, this was the first time since childhood that they had the opportunity to sit in a group and be allowed to play with toys, most especially dolls.
It was fun to make, compare and contrast the different outcomes of our efforts and hopefully you can see how much we enjoyed the Toys in the Community’s Museums at Night event. I hope they can do it again soon!
I used to have a huge collection of Barbie Dolls as a child. They were packed in boxes and I put everything on the floor before playing with them because I had to build their house first. Then I would just brush their hair for ages and make them wear beautiful dresses. They were my favourite toys! I got rid of them when I was 12. I shouldn’t have.
