For the Toys in the Community project we carried out oral history interviews with 40 people of differing ages and social backgrounds. Our youngest interviewee was 19 years old and our eldest was 99. Although the people we interviewed grew up in a range of places, both in the UK and abroad, they all lived in the Brighton and Hove area at the time of their interview. A number of them have current or past experience of homelessness.

Most of the oral history interviews were videoed, although three are audio only.

Each video has both a full and a short version, as well as an audio version. All of these have accompanying transcripts. There are also portrait photographs of most of the interviewees.

In the interviews people were asked about their memories of toys, especially teddy bears, dolls and construction toys.

We hope you enjoy finding out their answers!
